Bomba – “The Freedom Dance”

Daisy connected to her ancestors on the Moreno stage in Boughton Place where she danced “Bomba”. She has also offered this dance as a warm up to psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy enabling group members to connect to their own roots in a way which empowers them.

This dance represents Daisy’s interpretation of Afro Puerto Rican Bomba, which has also been referred to as “The Freedom Dance”.

Daisy trained with Bombazo Dance Company’s Director, Milteri Tucker. Bombazo Dance Company is a 501(c)3 not for profit drum and dance company whose mission is to preserve, educate and show case traditional Afro Puerto Rican Bomba and Afro Caribbean and traditional folkloric elements. See Milly’s contributions and support her cause at bombazodanceco.com.

The word “Bombazo” is where the community gathers to celebrate life through its rhythms, song and dance.
